The 3rd District of Leyte's Master Artisans (USWAG Product Development Program)
From weaving materials to weaving a community
Revitalizing the weaving traditions and aspects of the Third District of Leyte’s intangible cultural heritage, the USWAG Leyte Product Development Program enhances the artisanal spirit of the process of making things.
From the data and concepts by the Cultural Heritage Mapping Project of UST’s Center for Conservation of Cultural Property and Environment in the Tropics, heritage-driven design and entrepreneurship development were created together with the 3rd District of Leyte.
Woven into the soul of its people, numerous works are expressed through different materials such as abaca, bamboo, oway, metalwork, buli pandan, sig-id and batang-batang, and lastly, tukog wherein it will ensure the sustainability of the product design value chain.
At the heart of it all, the master artisans of the 3rd District of Leyte continue to keep the traditions alive. Here, the product development program instills new innovations, exploring the power of co-design in bringing together designers and master artisans for a common good.
