Soaring at over 2,702 meters above sea level, Mt. Amuyao is the highest peak in Mountain Province and one of the most challenging climbs of the Cordilleras. Watching the sunrise over a rolling bed of clouds is worth the frigid temperatures and grueling 3-to-5-hour assault to the summit.

This 360-degree immersive sound video puts the viewer right in the center of the action. Listen to the sounds that emerge from the solitude of the mountaintops—the wind through the trees, the echoes from the valley, even the mountain itself seems to be thrumming with a low-frequency noise. Enhanced by film composer Juan Miguel Sobrepeña with ambient sound, the evocative soundscape can also serve as an unguided meditation.

Recorded using Ambisonics, audio is captured in a 360-degree sphere from the position of the microphone. For best listening results, put on a pair of open back headphones, but any headphones or even earbuds will work. You can also leave this on in the background as unobtrusive, calming noises as you go about your day.

The Department of Tourism invites you to go on an ambient sound trip and experience a destination through the distinct sounds that can be heard when all is quiet. When we travel, we go “sightseeing,” but it is with our ears that we hear and sense things all around us. This is the first in a series of videos that will explore the natural sounds of a place, allowing viewers to tune into nature and be fully present in the moment.
